My Literacy Autobiography

My Literacy Autobiography

Greetings! My name is Andres Gutierrez and as I begin my educational path in the realm of biology, I am enthusiastic to ponder on the events that have influenced my connection with literacy. Besides textbooks and lectures, my personal fascination with cinematic storytelling, interactive gaming, and graphic narratives has significantly influenced my development as a reader and writer. Being proud of my Colombian heritage, I have recognized that my cultural background has greatly influenced my ability to read and write, creating a complex mix of language, customs, and sense of self that still shapes my educational goals and interests.

First Experiences with Reading and Writing

As I was maturing, my parents were the primary ones who supported my love for reading and writing. Throughout school breaks, our parents often bought books and comic books for my brother and me, which we would eagerly read. Our favorite way to relax was reading comics and playing video games. My parents, who both graduated from college in Colombia, instilled in us a value for reading and education. Each week, they bought books for us, exposing us to various genres of literature and authors. Accessing a constant flow of reading materials helped me improve my literacy skills.

Sources of motivation and role models

I was first inspired by the renowned Colombian author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. His magical realism writing style captivated me, leading me to immerse myself in his books like "Cien aƱos de soledad" and "Cronica de Una Muerte Anunciada" for endless hours. Marquez's writing not only sparked my love for books but also instilled in me a sense of pride for my Colombian heritage. His writing style and themes resonated with me, motivating me to discover more Latin American authors.

Rediscovering My Direction

Right now, I am trying to get back into reading. I am using my time to read, discover new authors, and write for pleasure. I still find motivation from Garcia Marquez and I strive to explore my unique writing approach. Sometimes it can be difficult, but I think the hard work is worth it. I am exploring different genres, being patient, and finding what works best for me.

Backing from my relatives

My parents and brother motivate me, stressing that reading is a journey for life. They inspire me to keep going, even when things get tough. They highlight to me that literacy is a journey, not an ultimate destination. Their answer is accurate. The key is not finishing a book, but enjoying the process.

Lessons I Have Acquired

Reading has taken me to various realms and acquainted me with lovely individuals. It has helped me to find my own voice and communicate in a more efficient manner. Even though there were obstacles to overcome, the work was ultimately rewarding. I've realized that reading is crucial to who I am. It's something that brings me joy and comfort.

Embarking on this journey is worthwhile. I believe my story will inspire you to keep reading and writing. One can always start afresh at any given moment. Feel free to get lost in an amazing book.

I also love to cook.

I can't wait to see where my passion for reading leads me. I understand that it will be a journey for the rest of my life, and I appreciate that. I am excited to discover different universes, interact with fresh personas, and establish my unique identity.
